The Tool Kit of a Naturopathic Doctor
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of rounded tipped needles in specific points of the body
which follow meridians of energy flowing through the body. If energy is stagnated,
which is the case in disease, inserting needles into these energetic pathways
stimulates the vital, or innate healing force of the body to address the
problem, and works to alleviate the disease.
Clinical Nutrition
Hippocrates is well quoted for saying “Let food be your medicine, and your medicine
be your food”. Mother nature has provided the tools to heal. A great part of Naturopathic
medicine is incorporating this mentality. The nutrients found in foods can have significant
healing abilities.
Clinical Supplementation
Augmenting certain vitamins and minerals creates great impacts on disease and prevention
of disease. When used properly in the right form, dose, and timing of doses, significant
transformations in health can take place. There exists a great variance in quality and
forms of supplements. Naturopathic doctors carry only the most pure, quality forms which
have proven to generate the most substantial shifts in healing disease.
Botanical (plant) medicine
Mother nature gave so many amazing plants to be used to heal, cure, and prevent illness.
Thanks to years of extensive research, Naturopathic doctors have an extensive knowledge
of the long history of using specific healing properties of plants. Plants when given in the
proper form and dosage can restore health and augment the body’s own ability to heal itself.
Homeopathic medicine
This energetic medicine has been used for hundreds of years, and has the most amazing
abilities to cure both physical and emotional diseases. This medicine is based on the idea
that like cures like. When the right remedy is matched with the right picture of where the
patient currently resides, incredible shifts take place that will place the person at ease within
themselves. It is the most astounding medicine that can affect someone in such a deep and
life changing way.
Counseling
As Naturopathic Doctors, we recognize that our emotions affect our physical body and our
physical body affects our emotions. It can be said that our emotions are the most significant
role in our health status. Thus acknowledging this connection is apart of finding your way back
to a healthy balance - both on a physical and mental level. Any counseling that you receive
from your naturopathic visits are not a replacement to sessions with a qualified counseling
professional, but merely an adjunct to the holistic health care that you are receiving from
your naturopathic doctor.
Specialized Treatments
Bowen Therapy
Bowen therapy is a gentle rolling movement at specific points on the body to release holding
patterns to restore proper innervation from the central nervous system, so that the body can
move and function as the body intended. By stimulating the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and
most notably, the overlying fascia, the body can facilitate the return of proper function and
communication between the different areas of the body. In general, results are seen within
3-4 treatments. Bowen is a gentle and extremely relaxing treatment, and thus, is suitable at
any age. Benefits reported include help with headache, neck/back pain, knee pain, and frozen shoulder.

The Basics of Naturopathic Medicine
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary health care that uses natural effective therapies to treat, cure, and prevent disease, as well as augment your current health. Many of these therapies have been used for thousands of years, with research proving their effectiveness in the treatment and prevention of disease.
Naturopathic medicine stimulates the body’s innate ability to heal itself. By removing obstacles to cure, and augmenting the body’s detoxifying abilities, disease can be cured, and health can be restored. By addressing your specific symptoms, a comprehensive custom treatment plan is implemented to ensure results. With the long term guidance of a Naturopathic doctor, a healthy, balanced quality of life is attainable.
Principles of Naturopathic Medicine
1. First do no harm
2. The healing power of nature
3. Identify and treat the cause
4. Treat the whole person
5. The physician as teacher
6. Prevention is the best cure
